Marge Foster Commitment to Service Award
Daniel Trust leads an award-winning youth development nonprofit organization that mentors and invests in low-income students and their teachers. Born and raised in Rwanda, Daniel Trust is a survivor of the Rwandan Genocide and immigrated to the United States as a refugee at the age of 15. He is also a member of the LGBTQ community. As a youth advocate, Daniel has provided mentoring and scholarships to hundreds of talented low-income youth who identify as first-generation college students, refugees, and members of the LGBTQ community.
Rachel Goldberg is a fierce advocate for the LGBTQ community. Rachel's work spans decades, helping to craft and pass policies that protect the LGBTQ community, and the transgender community in particular. This work ranges from anti-discrimination efforts in addition to opening up ways to make the laws in our state friendlier to people trying to lead happy and authentic lives. Rachel's work and partnerships have been extensive, working in national coalitions drafting trans-inclusive versions of the Employment Non-Discrimination Act and serving on the Lambda Legal's Board of Directors. Rachel's accomplishments are many and TCC is delighted to share this moment with her.
Community Partner of the Year
Synchrony Financial is home to dedicated professionals here in Fairfield County. Synchrony Financial's involvement with TCC is extensive. Synchrony has supported TCC's case management program with food pantry donations and has played a significant role in TCC's Gay Santa program, giving TCC clients holiday cheer. Synchrony Financial has been a committed TCC supporter for years and its generosity has empowered the LGBTQ community in our county and across the country. Synchrony has been noted for its LGBTQ-inclusive policies by the Human Rights Campaign.
Volunteer of the Year
Justine Stewart is a key TCC volunteer. Rolling up her sleeves to invest her time supporting TCC programs as a volunteer, or heading up TCC's efforts to ensure a cheerful and meaningful Pride festival, Justine can always be spotted behind the scenes. Justine has been a warm and welcoming presence at TCC for years. Justine is active in the local community, dedicating her time to causes supporting kids in the tri-state area in gaining access to quality education, to supporting a political process that embraces diversity and inclusion.
