Individually and as a couple, Gretchen and Bob have been involved in the Austin business and non-profit communities for almost thirty years. Gretchen’s career spans the financial realm, with positions ranging from CFO of multi-billion dollar Prime Cable to working with start-ups to financial investing. Bob owns and operates Southwest Corporation, a commercial construction company, and Gray and Becker Construction Company, a specialty steel structures company.

While the couple has been involved with a broad array of non-profits, social service agencies that address the needs of local community remain their top priority. Gretchen currently sits on the SAFE board, an extension of her 20 plus years of service on the boards of SAFE’s founding agencies, Austin Children’s Shelter and SafePlace, including stints as board chair.  Bob has served on the boards of Young Men’s Business League and Austin Sunshine Camps (including as President), Big Brothers/Big Sisters of Austin, Trinity Episcopal School and St. Stephen’s Episcopal School. Austin Theater Alliance, Austin Recovery and Austin Geriatric Center currently benefit from Bob’s board involvement.  Their support of SAFE is a family affair as Bob also brings his expertise to SAFE’s myriad of construction projects.

Gretchen and Bob are honored to be able to continue the service to the Austin community started by Gretchen’s parents, Sara and Dick Rathgeber, and are gratified to see their own three adult children commit to social services.
