Friends of Mountain Rescue supports
Vail Mountain Rescue Group
The mission of Vail Mountain Rescue Group (VMRG) is to save lives in the back county of Eagle County and when needed, in other areas of Colorado. VMRG also provides public education on back country safety. Residents and visitors alike become lost or injured in the back-country—there were 100 missions in 2016. The 100% volunteer team is available 24 hours a day every day of the year.
Friends of Mountain Rescue (FMR) is the fund raising and fund management arm of VMRG. FMR's goal is to build an endowment that will sustain VMRG and ensure that Eagle County has a funded and highly trained search and rescue team in perpetuity. The target is a $2 million fund and over $1,500,000 has been raised to date. This fund will also enable the volunteer rescuers to focus their time away from their jobs and families primarily on training and rescue missions, not on fund raising. When the total goal is met, annual fund raising campaigns will no longer be necessary as Vail Mountain Rescue will be self-sustaining, and its future will be assured.
FMR and VMRG are both 501(c)3 organizations.
