Zulu Nyala began back in May of 1981 when Trevor Shaw, the founding member of the Zulu Nyala Group, decided to take a risk and buy a remote 15,500 acre piece of land in the middle of Kwa- Zulu Natal, an undeveloped but superb wilderness area. ‘Bester’s Game Ranch’, as it was then known, was simply the land with a few small, basic lodges dotted around the mountain side. Shaw named the property Zulu Nyala, after the predominant culture of the area and the beautiful but shy Nyala buck, which is plentiful in this area but rare elsewhere in the country. He built up the lodges on the property to the extent that after 10 years he received an offer he could not refuse. The lodges and land were sold, except for one small piece of land with nothing on it but an amazing view and a quarry manager’s cottage.
And so it began again. In 1991, Trevor Shaw began constructing a ‘gentleman’s camp’, an exclusive 12 room thatch and stone lodge on top a hill, offering a beautiful view out over the region. This gentleman’s camp has been developed over 19 years to become the magnificent private lodge that today hosts guests from all over the world. Over this period of time, Zulu Nyala also acquired adjoining pieces of land from neighboring cattle farmers. Today the game reserve surrounding the Zulu Nyala Game Lodge is a 4,500 acre property that is home to over 40 different animal species. This Package Includes:
- 6 days and 6 nights accommodation for two people in a standard room at Zulu Nyala Heritage safari Lodge/Tented Camp. These facilities are situated in the heart of Zululand and the S. Lucia/Sodwana Bay Marine reserve/Lubombo corridor – one of the riches wildlife conservation regions in Africa.
- Full board, which is three delicious meals per day, prepared by the finest international chefs – with African flavor of course.
- Two Game View activities per day, guided by your own professional gam rangers in open game viewing vehicles, in Zulu Nyala game reserve. (The filming location of “I dream of Africa” starring Kim Basinger)

Subject to room availability, Zulu Nyala will, at its sole discretion; endeavor to accommodate requests for early arrivals and/or late checkouts.

Your package EXCLUDES airfare, airport transfers, drinks, extra meals, laundry, telephone, extra activities, accommodation and airport transfers at Zulu Nyala Country Manor.
Your trip is valid for 2 years from the Date of Purchase. This pacakage is non-refundable, non-transferrable or may not be given to any other organization or person, may not be bartered or sold in any other manner unless written permission is authorized by the Zulu Nyala Group.Reservations
Kindly note that reservations can only be confirmed once payment has been received from the Event/Organization where you purchased the trip/package.
It is advisable to book as soon as possible after purchasing your safari package or at least reserve your booking date one year in advance to avoid any disappointment. Kindly note that our peak season is between August and November
While most Properties strive to honor your requests, Zulu Nyala cannot guarantee that your request on specific room or type of bed will be honored.
Should you have to cancel your booking due to unforeseen circumstances, youa re allowed to rebook/reschedule the trip within the 2 years of expiry day.
There is a surcharge of $250 per person should you wish to extend your expiry date for another year.
There will be a surcharge of $110 to transfer a trip/package from the original winner’s name to another person, with written permission from Zulu Nyala.
Facilities and Services
Whilst care is taken to ensure that the description of facilities and services of Zulu Nyala is accurate, these are continually being changed, upgraded, and on occasion taken out of service and if any feature/facility is essential to you in choosing a particular property, it is your responsibility to confirm with Zulu Nyala prior to making your booking that the feature/facility will be available during your stay.
Zulu Nyala is not liable for omissions, errors or changes to the facilities and services at the properties, whether temporary or permanent.
Accommodation facilities listed may not apply to all room types.
Whilst Zulu Nyala attempts to satisfy all special requests, we do not guarantee that special requests can be accommodated.
Zulu Nyala shall not be liable for consequential damages or indirect damages. Should any faults or shortcomings arise in the services provided by Zulu Nyala, we will make every effort to correct this if the customer has brought these to our attention or made his objections promptly known. The customer is obliged to make reasonable effort to rectify any fault or minimize any possible loss or damage, and to bring any faults or damage immediately to Zulu Nyala front desk attention. The customer is also obliged to advise of the likelihood of any possible serious loss or damage without delay.
Safekeeping of baggage and personal effects shall at all times remain the Guest’s risk throughout. Zulu Nyala will assume no liability for lost or damage baggage.
Zulu Nyala strongly recommends that at the time of booking you purchase comprehensive travel insurance to cover items including but not limited to: loss of booking amount through cancellation, loss or damage to personal baggage, loss of money and medical expenses.
