In France, the regions of Burgundy and Lyon are legendary for some of the best wine and food the country offers - many might say some of the best in the world!

Burgundy has achieved almost mythical status for its silky Pinot Noir and crisp, elegant Chardonnay. Properties such as Domaine de la Romanée-Conti, Clos Vougeot, and Domaine Leflaive have obsessed collectors for decades. Equally prized is the cuisine of Lyon, long regarded as the capital of French gastronomy. It was here that renowned Chef Paul Bocuse invented Nouvelle Cuisine. Moreover, Lyon is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site, treasured for its Roman and Medieval archaeology.

Guided by Michel Thibault and Marla Norman, you’ll begin your exploration in Beaune, an ancient walled city that is central to wine-making in Burgundy. Your four-star hotel is located in the city center, for easy access to the historic sites, open markets, and cafés. You’ll have the opportunity to visit the Hospices de Beaune, the primary wine auction in France and a building considered one of the best-preserved Renaissance structures in Europe.

The wineries included in your visit are a short 20-minute drive from Beaune. Explore the southern appellations, primarily in the Côte-d’Or, where Chardonnay is produced almost exclusively. There, you’ll sample deliciously elegant vintages from Puligny-Montrachet, Chassagne-Montrachet, and Meursault.

Drive the iconic Route des Grands Crus for the ultimate wine photo-op by the historic cross at Domaine de la Romanée-Conti. You’ll also sample wines, and enjoy lunch at the fabled property of Domaine Trapet. Later, taste the wines of Olivier Bernstein, one of Burgundy’s new superstars.

Travel to Lyon on day four, which in many ways resembles a smaller version of Paris. The city is built along the Rhône and Saône rivers. A spectacular cathedral, the Basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourvière, sits atop a large bluff, very similar to Montmartre and Sacré-Cœur in Paris. There is even a version of the Eiffel Tower, called Tour Métallique de Fourvière. Lyon is especially lovely by night, when the Cathedral and Tower are lit up, as well as the many bridges crossing the rivers.

After arriving, you’ll dive right into the incredible gastronomical culture the city offers. Your five-star hotel is on the magnificent main plaza, immediately next to one of Paul Bocuse’s primary restaurants where you’ll enjoy the distinguished chef ’s cuisine. Including Bocuse, Lyon boasts eight Michelin-Star chef proprietors.

You’ll also dine at Christian Têtedoie’s acclaimed Michelin-Star restaurant, beautifully situated high over the city on Fourvière; the grand finale to an extraordinary food and wine experience.
