Chateau Lafite Rothschild 2004 – RP 95
It has a wondrous bouquet, very sensual and pure with blackberry, graphite and cedar - all the hallmarks of Pauillac, delivered with great panache. It is more opulent than I recall. The palate is medium-bodied with silky tannins, pitch-perfect acidity and a beautiful structure. There is a regal sense to this Lafite, understated compared to the other First Growths and yet the persistence on the finish deserves a round of applause, especially in the context of the vintage. This is superb and could possibly turn out to be the pick of the Firsts.
Continuum 2008 – RP 96
The 2008 Continuum is a striking wine endowed with gorgeous aromatics, expressive fruit and flat-out great balance. Espresso, grilled herbs, licorice and violets add complexity to the super-ripe black fruit.
Hundred Acre Fortunate Son Cabernet Sauvignon 2010 – RP 94
The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon Fortunate Son is a beauty. Woodbridge considers this wine to be a completely separate project. It appears to be virtually all Cabernet Sauvignon in its aromatic and flavor profiles, offering a deep, full-bodied, intense, powerful style with the purity, richness and appeal that his other wines display. Of course, 2010 was a remarkable vintage in Napa, and this wine reflects that.
Bevan Cellars EE Tench Vineyard 2013 – RP 96
This comes from the red, rocky terraces near the Dalla Valle Vineyard on the western Vaca hillsides in Oakville. This wine has great intensity, with notes of scorched earth, jammy blackberry and cassis fruit, some licorice, underbrush and truffle. It is elegant, yet powerful and authoritative, pure and multi-layered, with a phenomenal finish of close to 50 seconds.
Merus Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – RP 93
Loads of blueberry and blackberry fruit and an opaque purple color, this full-bodied wine is still young, but really savory, rich and bold. What it lacks in complexity it makes up in size and intensity.
Quilceda Creek Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 – RP 100
The 2014 Cabernet Sauvignon is another tour de force from this estate that's reminiscent of first growth Bordeaux from a vintage like 2009. Made from 100% Cabernet Sauvignon and aged in new barrels, it offers incredible notes of blackcurrants, graphite, lead pencil shavings and crushed rocks in a full-bodied, decadent, insanely layered and seamless style. This beauty possesses ultra-fine tannin, no hard edges and a forward, already hard to resist style, yet it's going to keep for more than two decades.
