Spottswoode is a family-owned historic vineyard and winery renowned for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. Established in 1882, the estate is distinguished by the pre-prohibition Victorian home depicted on the wine label. Spottswoode was christened by Mrs. Albert Spotts in 1910 and it was acquired by Mary and Jack Novak in 1972. Mary released Spottswoode’s first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982, exactly one hundred years after the estate’s founding.
Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2013 – RP 99+
A blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon, 8% Cabernet Franc and 4% Petit Verdot, this is a killer effort from Spottswoode. Inky bluish purple to the rim, it has hints of violets intermixed with sweet foresty notes, blackcurrants, chocolate and a touch of subtle smoke and earth. It is concentrated, dense and promising. It is a 50-year wine at the very minimum and a great classic.
Spottswoode Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 – RP 95+
This wine shows oodles of fruit, blackcurrants, blueberries, black raspberries, charcoal, subtle oak and a full-bodied, inky, intense mouthfeel with a boatload of tannin, but the fruit is present to balance it out. It is a highly successful effort and capable of lasting 30-35 more years.
