Dear Friends,

It is with both pride and determination that we announce the 12th Annual Care & Cure Benefit on behalf of the
Epilepsy Foundation of Greater Los Angeles (EFGLA), taking place on Thursday, May 10th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel. This year’s event will honor the incredible Mary Parent, Vice Chairman of Worldwide Production at Legendary Entertainment. As you may know, both of our families manage the day to day challenges of a child who suffers with a severe form of epilepsy. Our involvement in EFGLA is very personal for us, and we are determined to bring access to specialized care to all children in our community. Over the last 11 years, this gala has funded the specialty training of 26 new doctors at epilepsy centers across Southern California. But as far as we have come, there are still not enough physicians in our community treating this disease.

Epilepsy is the most common serious brain disorder in the world, and affects all ages, races, nationalities and genders. There are many different treatments for epilepsy, each with different outcomes, side effects and risks. Epilepsy is complex, and children have the best chance of living seizure free when under the care of pediatric neurologists and care teams specifically trained in this disease. Our personal goal is to ensure that all children with epilepsy can get immediate access to specialty care whenever needed.

Our families know first-hand that the changing healthcare system means that wait times for comprehensive care for children with epilepsy are still too long for many, and often not available at all for the most economically vulnerable in our community. The solution to improving the lives of these children is the direct funding of more doctors in our local medical centers, which is the singular goal of the Care & Cure Gala.

We hope you will join us on May 10th in honoring Mary Parent – while also ensuring the many children and their families who face the daily challenges of living with seizures have the chance to live full, independent and fulfilling lives. To that end, we invite you to help us in the fight to END EPILEPSY.
